Artistes don’t like paying for beats – WillisBeatz
Ghanaian sound engineer William Osafo, known professionally as WillisBeatz has expressed worry about musicians’ refusal to pay for the beats he makes.
WillisBeatz has worked with many artistes in Ghana and sharing some of his challenges with Graphic Showbiz, he said some artistes do not show appreciation for work done for them.

“Some of the artistes don’t like paying for beats. They claim they have money but they feel reluctant to pay for the work I’ve done for them. Every labourer deserves his reward and making a beat entails a lot of work.
“I have my needs to take care of and if they don’t pay for the work I’ve done for them, how will I be able to cater for myself? It’s not just me but other producers as well and it’s a worry for us. I will say only a few of the artistes do the right thing by paying us,” he said.
Though his productions have won a number of awards, WillisBeatz said there were times he anticipated some of his songs would win awards but they didn’t.
“An award scheme applauding me with an award motivates me a lot. There were songs I did which potentially deserved to win an award but didn’t.
“Not all the songs I produced got awards though they deserved it. I expect them to win but it doesn’t always go in my favour. When it happens like that, I just move on and continue with the good work,” he stated.
He has worked with the likes of Shatta Wale, MzVee, Kofi Kinaata but WillisBeatz is yet to work with Stonebwoy who he named as one of his favourites.
“I’m yet to work with Stonebwoy on his own project. I’ve worked on songs he had featured on before but not his personal songs. He is one of my favourites in Ghana,” he said.
WillisBeatz has produced Shatta Wale’s hit songs Taking Over, Forgetti, the late Ebony’s Sponsor among others. He won Producer of the Year at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards UK.
